QLD Family Holidays

Rather than taking your family to the usual place for the holidays why not try something a little different? Cedar Creek Lodge is a family friendly retreat that has just as much for young people to do as it does for adults.

The Mount Tamborine area enjoys a wonderful climate, plenty of greenery, a relaxing environment while still offering plenty to see and do. There are bushwalking tracks to explore, lookouts with fabulous views, cafes, restaurants and boutique stores in the local villages, and even a fabulous array of weekend markets throughout the area.

There is accommodation at Cedar Creek Lodges with extra bedrooms to cater for larger families, as well as camping sites, powered caravan sites and bunk houses. Thunderbird Park then has a range of activities that parents can enjoy with the kids, or leave them in the capable hands of trainers and guides so they can escape for some of their own fun.

Thunderbird Park

Thunderbird Park is home to Tree Top Challenge, Australia’s largest high ropes adventure course. Take part in the fun, fitness and coordination/team building that comes out of managing obstacles high up in the trees. The course includes 83 jungle games and 11 flying foxes.

For some truly competitive family fun, kit up and turn relative against relative in a game of Laser Skirmish. The harmless infrared beams allow you to enjoy a real life computer game without getting hurt.

The Hinterland area was once a group of active volcanoes. To take advantage of this Thunderbird Park has a thunderegg mine where you can fossick for 200 million year old hollow rocks filled with treasures that the volcanos left behind. Learn about the rocks from the park’s rock expert before you go fossicking for the little treasures yourself.

Both kids and adults can sign up at the park for introductory horse rides and full trail rides through the majestic gum forest.

The park is home to several bushwalking tracks that offer remarkable views and glimpses of Australia's rare and interesting native wildlife. While you’re hiking around the park take a break for a swim in one of the fresh water rock pools.

“I recently had the opportunity to enjoy this fabulous resort on Mt Tamborine. Going away with your kids and their friends can be quite a challenge but this is family heaven. The activities, especially the ropes course, rock hopping, and thunderegg mining are just great and kept everyone active all day. We stayed in one of the creek lodges and found them again ideal for the family. Located right on the creek with wood fire, spa bath, and very comfortable beds. There is a kitchen with everything you need - although we ate mainly at the restaurant as the prices were very reasonable and the quality of food excellent. Our kids and their friends are already asking when they can go back although they are thinking golf camping - they might but you will trouble getting the parents out of the lodges.” – April, 2011

“My two girls (7 & 4) and I met up a friend and her children, in the last week of school holidays. We were coming off the back of a great experience on an island holiday and time with family. When we arrived it was raining and set-in. There were many plans and our hopes of making it work let alone comfortable, were not high. At every turn we had such fun. Horse riding, the adventure park, hanging out in the cabin, the creek - the weather made no difference...The cabins are simple, but well-appointed and surprising roomy. The 'start your fire' service was very handy - stacks of great timber available. The restaurant was great also - kids loved it.” – November, 2010
