Gold Coast Attractions

For such a relaxed, peaceful area you’d be surprised at all the attractions and things to do you can find up in the Gold Coast Hinterland. There are a huge range of wineries, restaurants and cafes to treat yourself to, not to mention a few beer breweries and even a cheese factory where you can watch the magic happen. There are also a number of themed activity parks, tour groups, bush walking tracks and museums to explore.

With the lush rainforest, green valleys, rolling hills and tranquil creeks, the Gold Coast Hinterland is the perfect place for wineries. There are several wineries based in traditional homesteads that encourage visitors to come in for tastings. Many of these Gold Coast wineries such as Cedar Creek Estate, Aussie Vineyards and Albert River Wines have won a number of  wine making awards. Plot out your own course for an intimate tour or join one of the organised wine tours so you don’t have to limit your tastings for driving.

One of the bigger Gold Coast Hinterland attractions would have to be Thunderbird Park, a family park with something for everyone to enjoy. Take your pick of horse riding, bush walking, laser skirmish through the bush, swimming in natural rock pools and mini golf. Kids can learn about gemstone filled thundereggs and help discover them with the park's rock expert. For true adventure seekers take the challenge of the Tree Top Challenge (formerly known as Adventure Parc), Australia’s longest and highest ropes obstacle course.

For more natural Gold Coast attractions some of the farms in the Hinterland offer visitor tours by appointment. Take a tour of an authentic Aussie farm to experience bush culture, billy tea and damper, cattle mustering, horse riding, boomerang throwing and much more.

There are a number of local village markets that pop up on the weekends in Mount Tamborine. They're a source of wonderfully fresh, clean country produce grown locally in the rich volcanic soil. You'll find plenty of bargain priced goods ranging from handmade arts and crafts, to fresh fruit and veg, clothing and collectables.

The National Parks up in the Hinterland are home to some wonderful rainforest, valleys, waterfalls and creeks. The bushwalking paths through these mountains are well maintained and mapped so that visitors can make the most of the natural environment. Visit any of the National Parks information centres for maps that describe the terrain, views and fitness/experience necessary for each walking trail.

For those staying in Hinterland accommodation for their holiday the major Gold Coast theme parks are only a 30 minute drive away. Spend the day amid the rides and excitement of Movie World, Dreamworld, Wet’n’Wild or Seaworld and then retreat to the peace and quiet of your rainforest accommodation.
