Keep kids of all ages entertained on camping trips with this great list of fun activities.
There’s no doubt that camping is an activity enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you’re with a group of friends or the whole family, there’s something quite special about sitting around the campfire together and sleeping under the stars.
When kids are involved, it’s even more special to be able to take away the devices and get them outdoors to enjoy nature and have some quality time with the family. We admit, though, that sometimes it’s not so easy to get the kids away from their phones or tablets, especially the older kids.
If you’re trying to think of some fun activities to keep them distracted (ahem, entertained), then you might like to try one of the great games or activities we’ve included below.
Do you remember those basic (but pretty fun) outdoor activities you used to do at school fetes and picnics like the three-legged race, egg and spoon relay or potato sack race? You might not have a potato sack handy but if everyone’s brought their sleeping bag then you could have some fun watching the shenanigans unfold. And the kids are bound to have fun participating of course 😉 Get creative and set up some interesting obstacles, everyone is bound to have a good laugh AND get tired out. You’re welcome!
Bring a couple of water guns and super soakers and set up a game of cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians. This is great during the warmer months and you’re guaranteed to hear some squeals of delight as it likely turns into a free-for-all water fight! Please note, you will probably get wet too.
These are a lot of fun for kids and the more difficult it is, the longer they will be occupied. Check out these printable lists on Pinterest, or you can make up your own. Some of the things you can include are:
The ideas are limitless!
Sometimes just taking it easy and getting them to enjoy what’s around them is the way to go. Why not use this time to teach your kids how to skip a rock on the water, go fishing, make shapes out of the clouds or catch up on some reading under a tree or in a hammock? You can go for a walk, look out for any animals or birds, or sit around the campfire and roast some marshmallows.
If you’re camping at Thunderbird Park, then there is no shortage of fun things to do with the family. Our Treetop Challenge is very popular with kids (and even adults) of all ages, particularly thrill seekers.
